Oh Balls! I’m Growing Courgette Balls

I grow Ball Courgettes every year, they are round instead of the normal long shaped courgettes.

I love the ball round courgettes as they form on compact plants and they look stunningly unusual in the vegetable garden.

A Ball courgette plant can form up to 3 or 4 courgette balls on one plant at one time and then it could be double or triple that could grow over a couple of months.

⭐️ Top Tip: Less is more with Courgettes. You will only need 3 courgette plants to feed a family of 4 and you might still have had enough of courgettes by the end of the summer!

What is a Courgette?

A Courgette which is also known as a Zucchini in America and France is a type of summer squash.

The word Courgette came from the French word ‘Courge’ which means marrow or guord.

Courgettes are easy to grow and easy to cook. Just don’t boil them as they go mushy.

🏆 Fascinating Fact: A Courgette is made up of 95% water.

  • Courgettes can help combat a high cholesterol,
  • Courgettes contain soluble fibre,
  • Courgettes are high in antioxidants, vitamin C and potassium.

Growing Conditions for Courgettes

Courgettes like warm and sunny locations and preferably sheltered with enough room for it to spread, usually at least 1 meter squared.

As it is made up of a majority of water, it needs lots of water to make the plant grow and the courgette balls to develop.
