It’s certainly been a bumper year for courgettes, I thought I’d never say this but when do they stop?!

I thought that 3 ball courgettes per plant on two plants were just enough to deal with, my husband decided to give the plants a feed with Tomato-rite and two weeks later, we have more to deal with! and a giant marrow that was hiding under a leaf. Urgh!

It just shows that the plant is still alive even with powdery mildew leaves and all it needs is a bit of fertiliser and the plants have even started growing new green leaves as well as new courgettes.

Courgette Creativity in the Kitchen

I have gone through a few courgette recipes in the last few weeks, here’s some quick and easy recipes that might help you in your courgette glut.

Ratatouille – perfect if you also have tomatoes, garlic, onions and sweet peppers to use up

Courgette circles (Air Fryer) – quick and easy to cook to get rid of your glut.

Courgette Fritters (air fryer) – I can recommend these, very tasty when cooked in the air fryer and with a crispy outer. Serve with a fried egg on top.

Courgette and Mushroom Pasta – something other than courgette to mix with pasta.

Sweetcorn and Courgette Gnocchi skillet – I love the all in one pan recipes and a nice addition is the gnocchi to make this a meal.

Courgette Chocolate Cake – I’m trying this, this weekend.

Spinach and ricotta Lasagna with courgette pasta – this one’s on the list as I have spinach in the garden too.

How to Grow Courgettes

Sow: Late April.

Plant out: Late May.

Harvest: Late June to Late August.

Courgettes per plant: approx 6

Variety: Piccolo F1 (green striped ball courgette)

Would I recommend: Yes definitely. It is very prolific and easy to grow. The plant takes up a small space, perfect for a small vegetable garden.
