Here’s my Vegetable Garden Plan for Year 2024.
My plan is a work in progress and I’m always changing things about.
I had too many Onions this year and couldn’t bear to part with any of them so I have placed the second lot of 50 onions (grown in cell trays) in the ‘Squash’ section of Raised Bed 2 and I will be planting the Squash into large pots instead like I did last year with the Butternut Squash.

I’m also planning to put some Brussels sprout plants in large pots too.
Greenhouse in Early May
The Greenhouse is nearly full of vegetable seeds germinating and seedlings. This year I am also sowing 7 different types of flowers for bees and insects to brighten up the vegetable garden. It’s a lot to juggle in the greenhouse!
Flowers for Bees
I have been amazed how easy it is to germinate flower seeds in the greenhouse.
It’s such an easy and cheap way to start growing flowers for your garden. I’m currently growing:
- Sunflowers ‘Harlequin F1’
- Violet ‘Johnny Jump up’
- Pot Marigolds,
- Calendula ‘Art Shades Mix’
- Rudbeckia ‘Marmalade’
- Echinacea ‘Purpurea’
- Scabosia ‘Summer Berry Mix’.

Raised Bed 1 – Early May
🧄 The Spring planting Garlic was planted out in March and is now putting on growth in its leaves.
🥕 Carrots were harvested today, they were sowed last August and didn’t really get growing as they were tiny. So it’s time to make way for some new sowings.

Radish was sown at the end of April and is growing strong although being eaten by something, as the leaves have a few holes in them.
Spring onion was sown at the same time as the Radish but hasn’t germinated yet. It might be because of the heavy rain and colder weather.

The cage frame has been setup for the Kale and Savoy cabbage which will be sown later in May in modules first.
The folding willow trellis on top of the soil, is a 🐈 cat defence system as it stops the cats digging in the bare soil.
🍏 🍎 Behind the raised bed are two miniature apple trees, one on either side of the bed near the fence.
Also running along the fence with white flowers is the much anticipated Logan berry, which was planted last year and this year will be the first for berries.
Raised Bed 2 – Early May

🫘 Broad Beans plants have been outside since Mid March and have been flowering. Their growth had been stunted however this seems to have recovered and they are growing again.
🥬 Lettuce butterhead Harvest – Winter lettuce which was sown last August has now been harvested. One was ok and the other was rotten from too much rain. The leaves are so soft on this lettuce.

Chives have also overwintered and are now flowering.
🧅 New – Onions in cell trays (the other 50) have now been planted out today into this bed.
On the Bare soil in between is the folding willow trellis for the cat defence system. This will be the area for growing pumpkins. 🎃
🍐 On the right, near the fence is a miniature Pear Tree.
Raised Bed 3 – Early May

Nothing has been planted in this bed so far, it just has the willow trellis which is my cat defence system to stop them digging the bare soil.
Later on in the year, Lettuce, Courgette and Sweetcorn which have been sown in the greenhouse at the end of April will be planted out into this bed.
Raised Bed 4 – Early May
🧅 Onions in a cell tray planted out in Mid April have now rooted and are growing strong.
🥕 Carrots were sown in the middle of the onions in Mid April and only just germinated.
2 x rows of Parsnip seeds have been sown today across the middle of the bed.
New – Leeks were planted out today in the other half of the raised bed.
On the left of the photo, near the fence is another miniature Apple tree.
