How to Pot on your Tomato Seedlings

This guide will show you how to pot on your tomatoes. Once your tomato seedlings have 4 leaves, it’s time to pot them into fresh compost so they can continue growing ready to be planted out.

You will need:

  • Some 9cm round pots and a tray to put them in,
  • Some compost to fill the pots with,
  • A dibber or pencil and a small fork,
  • Watering can and water.

1. Fill your post with compost, not all the way to the top.

2. Using a dibber or a pencil, make a hole in the compost, to put your tomato seedling in.

3. Using the small fork, dig down into the cell or seed tray and gently lift your tomato seedling out.

4. Holding the leaves gently, remove from the cell and place the seedling into the hole in the new pot.

5. Push the compost back into the hole, round the new seedling, so the seedling is upright in the pot.

6. Water the seedling and put the tray in the Mini greenhouse until the seedling is large enough to plant outside.
