By June, most of your vegetables are happily growing in their final spaces in your vegetable beds.
You may have a few spaces, where a quick crop of radishes has finished or there is space between other vegetables because they haven’t spread out yet and to fill all your soil space, you could squeeze something else in.

Why do you need to sow anything else right now?
To keep the momentum going with growing vegetables. You might have mostly full raised beds with a few gaps. Your Vegetables might be well on the way to harvest, so if you start more veggies from seed now, you will have something else to harvest in August.
What else can I grow to fill the gaps in my raised beds?
- Lettuce (lettuce is a cool loving plant so if the temperature is too hot, seeds won’t germinate or the plant may bolt).
- Beetroot,
- Carrots,
- Radish,
- French Beans,
- Dwarf Borlotto Beans,
- Peas,
- Herbs to sow in June: Dill, parsley, basil.
- Compact flowers for wildlife like violets, nasturtiums (if you have room for it to ramble), marigolds. Add a bit of brightness to your veggie beds amongst the greenery.
Sowing French Beans in amongst my Sweetcorn and Pumpkins

Sowing beans, sweetcorn and pumpkins is a classic combination in raised bed plantings. It is a well known planting combination called the 3 Sisters Planting Method.
The 3 Sisters Planting Method
Sweetcorn, beans and either Pumpkins or Squashes are planted together because they compliment the soil nutrients and encourage growth.
Ground: The pumpkins or squashes are grown underneath the sweetcorn so they can ramble and gain much needed shade.
Middle Height: The beans fix nitrogen in the soil with nodules on their roots which helps boost the corn and the pumpkins.
Tall Height: The Sweetcorn can grow tall as its roots are not disturbed by the beans or pumpkin.
