Today was a cold and cloudy day, 9 degrees centigrade. My daughter found her first ladybird of the year today, a six spotted one which sat clinging to a blossom bud on our newly planted apple tree last year.
We don’t often see ladybirds but we intend on trying to encourage them into our garden this summer by putting together a ladybird house and provide some flowers for them to sit on or under.

Our seed sowing commenced today with the following seeds sown:
- Sweet Pepper – Tangerine Dream
- Sweet Pepper – Corbaci
- Chilli Pepper – Long Slim
- Marigolds
- Sunflowers
- Pea – Feltham First
- Pea – Kelvedon Wonder
My daughter helped sow the sunflowers, marigolds and peas. I put up the bamboo wigwams for the peas to grow up when they were ready to transplant out and the vegetable plot looks ready to accept some new plants, we just have to wait a few more weeks for the weather to warm up enough to sow some seeds outside.
All seeds sown today have been covered with a transparent lid and put on the high windowsills in our conservatory.
