Seed Sowing Aubergine & Sweet Peppers

It’s the beginning of March and time to sow Aubergines (eggplants) and Sweet Peppers on a sunny indoor windowsill.

You will Need: A Greenhouse in a sunny location to grow these warm loving plants.

I shade my greenhouse with netting in the summer as it gets too hot and the sun at its hottest through glass, can scorch the fruit.

Things you should know about Growing Aubergines (Eggplants)

  • Aubergines are very sensitive to the cold,
  • Aubergines need a lot of sunlight, 6 to 8 hours a day,
  • Aubergines need temperatures of at least 20 degrees C.
  • Aubergines like a rich , well drained soil.
  • Aubergines need a lot of water, but don’t like their roots standing in water.

Things you should know about Growing Sweet Peppers

  • Sweet Pepper plants need 6-8 hours in sunlight a day,
  • Sweet Peppers plants need consistent watering,
  • Sweet peppers like nutrient rich soil that drains easily,
  • Sweet peppers need support canes as they produce fruit.
  • Pick Sweet Peppers regularly when ready for harvest so the plants can produce more fruits.
