, ,

July is the time of the year when the tomatoes are changing colour so you’ll be getting lot of different shades of green, orange and red. It’s a magical experience seeing all the different colours.

Don’t worry if your Tomatoes haven’t turned red yet, please see my – Top 3 Tips to get your Tomatoes to Turn Red.

Three tomatoes ready to harvest

How do I know when my Tomatoes are ready to Harvest?

  • Tomatoes ripen from the bottom upwards, so check the tomato is red all the way round.
  • Gently press the bottom of the tomato to see if it is hard or soft. Hard it is not ripe enough yet and soft is its ready to be picked.
  • The tomatoes should come off the vine easily when ready to harvest.

How to Harvest your Tomatoes

I’ve grown Cherry Tomatoes this year in the greenhouse and I have all the different colours as well.

Once your tomatoes turn red, you should be picking them regularly so that the tomato plant grows more and more. This is how you get a good harvest.

Harvesting regularly also helps keep the pests away from your fruit and your tomatoes plants.

Here’s a Quick Video on how to Harvest your Tomatoes

To Harvest your Tomatoes – Cup your hand around the fruit and the fruit should fall off the plant quite easily.
