You may now be ready to plant out your Broad Beans in a Raised bed.

You will Need:

• Broad Bean plants,
• A Raised bed or pot to plant them in with peat free compost,
• A trowel,
• Watering can with water.

How to Plant out Broad Beans in your Raised Bed

• 1. Dig a hole with the trowel.
• 2. Gently take the Broad Bean plant out of the root trainer or pot, careful not to disturb the roots.
• 3. Place the Broad Bean plant in the hole at the same height as it was in the pot i.e level with the raised bed compost surface.
• 4. Move some more compost round the surface and gently push down the soil around the broad beans plant.
• 5. Give your plants a good water with the watering can.

Before and After Planting

Before

Before the Broad Beans were planted, I had to harvest the Fennel. Then I added more peat free compost to the whole of the raised bed.

After

After the planting out, I now have 5 Broad Bean plants in a row. Normally you should plant them in double rows, if they are tall plants. I’m growing a smaller variety that is good for windy gardens called Elenora
