Last year our Onions rotted in our Raised Beds. It was just too wet constantly outdoors so I don’t want the same thing happening this year. I’m determined to harvest some onions this year so I need to try a different approach.
This year I am going to start our onion sets off in a cell tray so they can build strong roots and then be transplanted outdoors into raised beds when the weather is less wetter.
I’m also going to try in onions in a deep pot just in case it’s too wet again outdoors.
I’m determined to get some onions this year!

How to Grow Onions in 3 Easy Steps
📋 You will need:
1. Buy Onion Sets.
I bought these onion sets or bulbs from the garden centre but they are also available online from Amazon.

2. Cell trays or small pots,
3. An un-heated Greenhouse or mini greenhouse with a cover.
Step 1 – Check your Onions
Open the bag and put the loose onions in a tray so you can remove any mouldy ones.
Step 2 – Plant your Onions
Start with one Onion bulb and push it into the soil with the tip facing to the sky. The bulb only has to be pushed into the soil until it stands upright and is not covered totally by soil. It’s like you’re placing them on top of the soil.

Step 3 – Water Onions
Water well as this activates the growing of the shoots and roots. Then put in an un-heated greenhouse or mini greenhouse with cover.
