Our Vegetable Plot Plan 2021

I like to be organised and have a plot plan and what to sow when list to guide me through the growing season. When the growing season gets going in April and May, I feel like it can get a little overwhelming and almost chaotic if I haven’t got some sort of plan.

Last year my husband complained because my plan wasn’t written down, he didn’t know what to seeds to sow or help plant out. His love for vegetable gardening has grown since we have had our plot over the last 3 years as I have encouraged him to grow seeds and see the harvests.

He has definitely caught the veg growing bug, as he is now the first one outside trying to see the shoots pop out of the ground. His project this year is our new fruit garden which has taken over our flower borders.

Luckily we are not that into flowers (apart from a few spring bulbs and some easy to grow flowers on the veg plot for the bees) but we do have a daughter who loves berries, so we thought it was a good move to grow some raspberries and blueberries this year.

So back to my Veg Plot Plan, I work in Accounts and so I LOVE a spreadsheet, so this was easy for me to produce my plot plan on an Excel spreadsheet. (If you haven’t got Excel, use Open Office, a free copy cat version of Microsoft Excel and it’s just as good).

I blocked out some areas using merge cells and typed in the vegetable I wanted to grow in that area and when it needs sowing or planting. My plan covers 4 pages of spreadsheet so I had to print them out and glue them together and it’s now on our kitchen wall and we are all ready to start sowing seeds.

I consult the companion planting schemes to ensure that the vegetables I have picked to grow next to one another, actually are ok growing next to one another. For example it took me a while to work out where to plant my Brussels sprouts (they must have moved on the spreadsheet about 4 times) because they hate growing near to strawberries and tomatoes as it inhibits their growth. They however love being next to dwarf french beans, peas, carrots, beetroot and onions. I’ll be writing a post on Companion Planting shortly as I find it a very interesting topic.

So drum roll please…..

Get the fanfare out, here is my Vegetable Plot Plan for 2021.
