Jobs To Do in July

Keep Sowing

You might be fed up of sowing seeds and just want to enjoy your garden. You absolutely should enjoy it with all its harvests, BUT don’t stop sowing seeds now! Keep sowing for lettuce, spinach, radish and autumn & winter vegetables.

Keep Watering

YOUR PLANTS NEED YOU !

Keep Watering during hot or extreme heat periods. You may need to water daily for surface soaks or once every two days for deep soaks.

Keep Harvesting

Keep harvesting your veg so you get some more. Once the veg or fruit is picked, the plant starts making more energy to concentrate on the next harvests.

The Veg Garden in July

Massive Pumpkins plants

If the size of the leaf on my pumpkin plant is anything to go by I am hoping for great sized pumpkins this year.

Peas half way up the Pea Wall

Peas have made it through the heatwave and high winds and are clinging onto the netting on the pea wall. Peas are now flower and have pea pods.

Mini Melons – Finally Growing

It’s our second year of growing Mini melons. This year I have a baby water melon and an heirloom cantaloupe mini melon. Can’t wait to see them grow!

Bumper Berry Harvests

Loganberry, Raspberry, Blueberry and Blackberry are having a bumper harvest this year. Never before have we had to freeze the fruit so that it doesn’t spoil.

June Harvests

June was definitely Harvest Month

Shallots, Garlic, elephant garlic, carrots, beetroot, spinach and lettuce was harvested in June. I wonder what we will harvest in July?

1st Early Potatoes Harvest

Not the greatest harvest of 1st early potatoes, but the pots were in nobodies way, doing their own thing. We have enough new potatoes for a weeks worth of salad dinners.

Shallots

The best thing about grown growing Shallots is they multiply! Plant 1 shallot and get at least 3 more. Shallots are milder onions that lend themselves to being caramelised.

Elephant Garlic

It’s time to harvest the huge bulbs that are Elephant Garlic. They were not wrong, they are big, here’s a size difference.

I’m looking forward to cooking with the larger bulbs.

Courgettes

The first courgette has arrived!

You’ll only have to blink and you’ll miss the rest, so keep checking your plants and harvest courgettes.
