Sweet Peppers

Sweet Peppers – Introduction

Sweet Peppers are part of the Capsicum family and are from Central and South America. They were distributed to Spain in 15th century and then moved round Europe and Asia.

Sweet Peppers are normally red but there are now varieties purple, orange, brown, yellow, green and white. Sweet Peppers also come in rams horn long shapes or bell peppers are fatter.

Sweet Pepper plants are upright compact plants. They can be grown in pots or containers and are best suited to growing in a greenhouse or poly tunnel.

Sweet Peppers start to form after the small normally white flowers is pollinated by bees or insects and they need regular watering to form the sweet pepper.

Sweet Peppers are slow growing but are well worth the wait!

In the UK, we do not have tropical temperatures, however if you have a greenhouse, you will be able to grow Sweet Peppers. They will struggle outside in the UK as it is not constantly hot.

On the Sweet Pepper plants, I have been growing I am getting approximately 5 rams horn peppers per plant.
